Top 5 Tips on Consistency

There’s so much going on at doTERRA AUNZ. We launched incredible new products in October, had the excitement of BOGO shortly after, and now our Christmas campaign.

When life gets hectic, it’s easy to let things slide a little, letting go of our steadfast and regular routine and watching our consistency fall by the wayside.

Even our top leaders, people who pride themselves on their ability to remain true to their daily, weekly and monthly business tasks, have a hard time staying consistent about consistency. But staying the course is key to a thriving business and even the best-laid plans can topple without a commitment to consistency.

But why?

Put your favourite essential oil in the diffuser and let’s take a few minutes to understand what it is about consistency that’s so critically important.

Why is consistency key?

  1. Consistency makes things measurable.
Until you have tried something new for a set period of time and followed through in a consistent manner, you can't properly determine if what you are trying to achieve is working or not.  How can you measure effectiveness if what you are measuring isn't performed consistently?

For new projects or processes, you typically need to allow at least six months before you can call the endeavor a success or failure. If you’ve been consistent in your action plan, the project may require only minor tweaks, rather than a major overhaul, and you’ll be able to measure when and why it performed well or possibly determine why it didn’t do so well, if all other variables were consistent.

If you haven’t been consistent, it’ll be much harder to judge where the flaws in your projects or processes are and more difficult to assess what to change, what to stop and what to continue.

  2. Consistency creates accountability.
Most of the time, with a business like doTERRA, you work independently. Although you may sometimes enlist the help of family and friends or seek advice from the corporate team, the reality is – you probably spend the majority of your time working alone.

Creating a plan and committing to consistency helps us stay accountable to ourselves and to others. It keeps us heading in the direction of our goals and aligned with the strategy that we originally defined. Essentially, consistency is the vehicle that gets us where we want to go.

Being consistent also encourages our customers, followers and downlines to show up in the same way, becoming accountable to one another by consistently following a regular action plan.

If you make it a priority to be available to your team regularly by establishing consistent or recurring meetings, you’ll not only be more accountable, but you’ll become more trusted and reliable too.

  3. Consistency establishes trust.
It’s no secret that people buy people. And for people to buy into you, you may need a consistent track record of success. We can establish a track record if we remain consistent. Once we have a track record, we can then keep running the same tried and tested pathways. And we can help others navigate the same course.

So, by being consistent, we not only create a solid path for our own success, but we can smooth the way to success for others as well, building and creating trust in our methods and our relationships.

On the flip side, if you find yourself constantly changing gears, going off the radar or trying new tactics that are too inconsistent to be measurable, you can create a culture of mistrust and confusion in your community.

  4. Consistency makes you the leader.
Your team and your customers need a predictable flow of information from a central source, they need leadership and solid guidance. By adopting consistent methods in your processes and in your communication, and by making yourself accountable with regular and consistent check-ins, you’ll be showing members of your team that you’re a worthy leader that deserves to be trusted.

  5. Consistency maintains your message.
Your team and your customers are much more tuned in to what you do, than to what you say. So, if you want to give them a message that says you are there to support them, you’ll have to make sure you are following through with that message by doing what you say and being consistently available to support them.

Being consistent is the best way to make your message clear. And when you’re consistently there to support your team, you might find they consistently support you as well.
