Part 2: Toxicity—Chronic Toxicity


In contrast to acute toxicities, chronic toxicities occur from exposure to a particular substance over a prolonged timeframe, usually lasting a period of weeks, months, or years. Although adverse health effects may not begin immediately upon the initial exposure, these effects are typically severe and irreversible.

Common Signs and Symptoms of Chronic Toxicity:

  • Cancer
  • Damage or failure of accessory organs
  • Damage or failure of vital organs
  • Fetal damage or miscarriage
  • In severe cases, coma or death
